VOWEL SOUNDS

Vowel Sounds are the sounds produced without any significant constriction or blockage of airflow in the vocal tract. In the English language, there are five primary vowel letters (A, E, I, O, U), but they represent a range of distinct sounds. Vowel sounds are categorized into short vowels (e.g., /æ/ as in cat, /ɪ/ as in sit) and long vowels (e.g., /iː/ as in seat, /uː/ as in food). Additionally, there are diphthongs, which are sounds formed by the combination of two vowels in a single syllable, such as /aɪ/ in ride. The clarity and variation in vowel sounds are essential for pronunciation, communication, and distinguishing words in speech.
