INDEFINITE PRONOUNS(WITH SINGULAR VERBS)
Indefinite pronouns are pronouns that refer to non-specific people, things, or amounts. When these pronouns are used with singular verbs, they take the form of a singular subject, even though they may refer to multiple items or a general quantity. Common indefinite pronouns that require singular verbs include:
- Everyone
- Everybody
- Anyone
- Anybody
- Someone
- Somebody
- No one
- Nobody
- Each
- Either
- Neither
- Everyone
For example:
- Everyone is excited about the event. (singular verb “is”)
- Each of the students has completed their assignment. (singular verb “has”)
- Somebody has left their bag on the table. (singular verb “has”)
These pronouns always take a singular verb form, regardless of the noun they replace.
