INDEFINITE PRONOUNS(WITH SINGULAR VERBS)

Indefinite pronouns are pronouns that refer to non-specific people, things, or amounts. When these pronouns are used with singular verbs, they take the form of a singular subject, even though they may refer to multiple items or a general quantity. Common indefinite pronouns that require singular verbs include:

  • Everyone
  • Everybody
  • Anyone
  • Anybody
  • Someone
  • Somebody
  • No one
  • Nobody
  • Each
  • Either
  • Neither
  • Everyone

For example:

  • Everyone is excited about the event. (singular verb “is”)
  • Each of the students has completed their assignment. (singular verb “has”)
  • Somebody has left their bag on the table. (singular verb “has”)

These pronouns always take a singular verb form, regardless of the noun they replace.
